Revised matrix Standard Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be a transition period for the Revised Standard? add remove

Yes, there will be a period of time when your assessment must be completed – you can choose whether to be assessed against the 2011 version of the Standard or the 2023 one. The transition period will be from the 16th of May – 31st of Dec 2023.

(the timescale for the full transition will be until 2026 as your three-year assessment falls due)

What other support will be available? add remove

We will offer free webinars to introduce the 2023 version and answer any questions you may have. Roger Chapman, Head of Service and David Crosby, MBE and Licenced Assessor will be hosting the webinars. Please see here to sign up.

For further paid support, please see here for further details.

Are there any changes to the elements? add remove

There will now be 7 Elements in the 2023 matrix Standard:

  • Purpose
  • Resource
  • Offer
  • Delivery
  • Outcomes for individuals
  • Impacts for organisations
  • Continuous Improvement

This incorporates the previous 2011 elements.

Why was the Standard Updated? add remove

The previous version was 10 years old, and the Department for Education (DfE) wanted the Standard to remain world-class.

Has the Standard changed? add remove

It’s an evolution of the previous standard to modernise it. Whilst it is broadly similar, there will be a document which sets out the differences between the 2011 Standard and the 2023 one.

Will it cost more to be assessed? add remove

Broadly no, the costing model remains similar although there are some changes planned for large colleges and National Careers Service provision. Please speak to us if you have any queries about the cost.
