National Careers Week 2026: Celebrating Our matrix‑Accredited “Careers First” Organisations

For National Careers Week, we are highlighting organisations that specialise in Information, Advice, and Guidance (IAG). While many training and education providers hold the matrix Standard, the following five are “Careers First” organisations large-scale specialists who often hold prime government contracts to deliver careers services across entire regions.

Each of these has held the matrix Standard for well over a decade, often dating back to the inception of the current careers landscape in the early 2000s.  It’s important to acknowledge that that landscape will change this year with the creation of the new Jobs and Careers Service, yet it’s important to celebrate the outstanding work of the National Careers Service network as it migrates.

1. Education Development Trust (EDT)

  • Specialism: National Careers Service Prime & International Education.
  • History: They have been a cornerstone of UK careers advice for over 20 years. They deliver the National Careers Service across multiple regions (including the North East and South East).
  • Why for NCW: They are one of the most research-led providers in the country. Their “Careers First” approach focuses on social mobility and evidence-based guidance.

2. Adviza

  • Specialism: All-age Careers Guidance & Schools Support.
  • History: Evolving from the original Connexions services in the Thames Valley, Adviza has held the matrix Standard since the early 2000s.
  • Why for NCW: They are a major charity dedicated specifically to IAG. They provide intensive support to “NEET” (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) young people and are a key partner for schools during National Careers Week.

3. Career Connect

  • Specialism: Youth & Adult Careers Social Enterprise.
  • History: Based in the North West (formerly Connexions), they have maintained matrix accreditation for over 15 years. They are one of the largest social enterprises in the UK dedicated to careers.
  • Why for NCW: They specialise in “bridging the gap” between education and employment, offering high-tech digital career tools alongside traditional face-to-face guidance.

4. CXK

  • Specialism: Regional Careers & Skills Charity.
  • History: A “long-standing holder” (accredited for 15+ years), CXK is a major provider of careers advice across the South and South East. They deliver the National Careers Service and specialized youth programs.
  • Why for NCW: Their work is deeply rooted in community guidance. They are excellent at showing how careers advice can be tailored to local labor market information (LMI).

5. Shaw Trust (incorporating Prospects)

Why for NCW: As a massive national charity, they focus on the “whole person,” helping those with disabilities or complex barriers find sustainable career paths.

Specialism: Employability, SEND, and National Careers Service.

History: Shaw Trust acquired Prospects Services, which was one of the very first large organizations to achieve the matrix Standard. Combined, they have decades of continuous accreditation.

Looking to Raise the Quality Standard of Your IAG Service?

The matrix Standard is the leading standard for Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG), owned by the Department for Education, (DfE), and is applicable in all sectors. It’s delivered on behalf of DfE by the Growth Company.

Achieving matrix Standard accreditation ensures and demonstrates that your organisation delivers high-quality IAG services. This not only guarantees that your service users are able to receive the best possible support, but also provides a competitive edge in funding and tendering applications. The accreditation can be applied to your entire organisation, or specific areas that provide IAG.
