The statutory guidance outlines why schools (and local authorities that maintain pupil referral units) must secure independent careers guidance for young people, what they must do to comply with their legal responsibilities in this area and the role of the governing body and head teacher in shaping the guidance and support offered by the school.The guidance contains minor updates to the previous version issued in April 2014. Updates ensure that the document is clearer in relation to how schools should meet their duty, including what good practice looks like, and reflects areas that have changed since the last publication, for example the creation of the new careers and enterprise company, the SEND Code of Practice published last year and the new requirement on schools to include the use of good quality portals in delivering their wider duty on careers guidance from 2015/16.The updated guidance will be effective from September 2015.· UPDATED – Careers Guidance for Colleges.
